Socktoberfest

I met my Socktoberfest objectives for 2006! I love making socks!

First here are Blue Baby socks. Started on Oct 15, finished on Oct 16. Gotta love 1 night projects. And these are sooo soft, made with Sirdar Snuggly on 3.75 mm needles. I grabbed the pattern from this site: North Country Cotton Baby Socks

Second, here are the completed Father & Son socks. The yarn is Essential Tweed from Knit Picks in Inca Gold and the pattern is Father & Son socks from Interweave Knits Fall 2006. This picture doesn't due these justice because they are the softest wool socks I've ever felt. These are a present for a friend of mine but I got Troy to try them on just so I could see how they look on a guy, and they are manly when worn. Definitely a pattern I will reuse again.

Father & Son Socks

Third, but not least, are completed Lobster Pot socks in Fleece Artist merino in Moss color. I test knitted these socks for Chrissy who has a new website up where you can purchase this pattern. I had a great time making these, even though I didn't quite follow the pattern. Apparently when looking at the chart I somehow developed a reading problem and missed a big part of it. This was definitely no fault to the pattern, it was written very clearly. They turned out beautiful even though I need glasses and are really comfortable to wear as well.

In addition to those completed items, here is one Broad Ripple sock (altered for fingering weight) and a started Jaywalker.

Amazing 'not so secret' Pal

My Secret Pal from SP9, Deirdre, sent me a terrific package that arrived on Thrusday night!

It had socks for me that she reknit to be longer because I had told her the wrong foot size.
What a great gal!

And then, she also included a ball of sock yarn to make up for the fact there is a line in the socks... which is truly non-existent. I wore the socks on Friday and they fit perfect. The pattern Straight Laced from Knitty.com.

These are the first socks anyone has ever knit for me! Thanks Deirdre!

Icarus Shawl

Sorry no blogging lately folks... My husband temporarily misplaced our camera and I kept putting off blogging until we found it. I can't believe it has now been 2 weeks!

I'm going to keep the words short and let these pictures speak for themselves...

Pattern: Icarus Shawl by Miriam Felton, Interweave Knits, Summer 2006
Started: Summer 06
Finished: October 7, 2006

This is the prettiest thing I have ever knitted by far! It's my first lace shawl, but knit with fingerweight merino instead of lace weight anything. The yarn is from Fleece artist and the color is amazing.

Socks of Doom have arrived

Last night was my 3rd anniversary but of course my husband and I could not make any plans because we were not even going to be seeing each other. Like two ships in the night we are.

I had class from 6:30-9:30pm and he had hockey from 9pm-12am. I arrived home from class to find a beautiful vase of flowers and a very nicely worded card that brought tears to my eyes (score 1 for Troy). This was great but I had not left him a card or anything. I had bought a present for the both of us last week so had not really thought it through that I should at least get him a card or give him a pair of socks or something.

Then it dawned on me... I'll knit him a pair of socks tonight! So I went in search of a fast pattern to knit up so I grabbed the pattern from sock wars. I took some briggs & little yarn and balled it (got to use the swift!) and casted on at exactly 10pm. I know all you sane knitters out there have realized there is no way I can knit a pair of socks for our anniversary starting on the night of our anniversary at 10pm, and you are correct. But I did get past the heel by the time he arrived home and showed him his new sock. He obliged by trying it on with the needles and all and he didn't even call me crazy! Now that's love!

It dawned on me this morning that probably Socks of Doom are not the best present to knit your husband as an anniversary present. Good thing I'm not supersticious.

On another note, I have been killed today by these appropriately colored bright red socks. They are very soft and a nice shade of bright red (the camera did not do the color justice). Thanks Susan!

Swift at last!

Fleece Artist Merino Greens

I have been pining after this Fleece Artist Merino sock yarn in Moss colorway ever since it arrived at London-Wul a few months ago. I love the greens, the colors are brillant. I finally caved in and bought it last Sunday when I saw there was only one ball left, there were originally two. I just had to have it before they were both gone!

Yarn Swift

Then yesterday I bought my much needed Swift at London-Wul! It's beautiful! I had to try it out immediately and luckily I had this new skein of yarn that needed to be balled up. Troy is now out of a job, I'm running solo from this point forward. Sorry Troy... we'll find something else for you to do, like maybe knitting that second dishcloth that has been underway for over a month.

Balled Fleece Artist Merino Greens

Of course once the yarn was balled it had to be put to work. I casted on for a secret cable sock I'm making. I'm test knitting for Chrissy so I can't show you a good photo yet but it's turning out really nice with this color. This sock's for me! Stay tuned because when the pattern is published I'll show how these turned out and I'm sure everyone will want to get themselves a copy.

Autumn in the making

Fall is in the air and so are some fall projects.

I've been extremely busy with class work and regular work, but I've managed to find some new times to knit. Like in bed in the morning, in the car on the way to work and while reading my text book chapters for the class I'm taking.

The Autumn socks are completed. They are a present for a friend and it's nice to get them done early.

I decided the dogs needed a new bed so I picked up some fall leaves fleece at the store and created this comfy bed. Kozmo likes it a lot and it matches my living room (not where the photo was taken.

I woke him up with the flash!

In other sadder news, the fall project I had set up for myself, which was to knit this mohair sweater, is not going to happen. I started it and completed about 9 inches but have realized there is no way I'm going to have enough mohair. I don't know what I was thinking. I'm already through half of the first of only 2 balls, and I only have 9 inches done. It looks great and is so soft, I think I'm going to turn what I have done into a scarf and cut my losses. Then I'll use the rest of the mohair to make a perfect pie shawl for myself.

I finished knitting the Heart Lace for a pillow this week but it's not worth taking a picture of until after it's blocked. It looks like a snake right now. I have to get it on the blocking board this week so I can attempt to sew it to the pillow case. I'm not looking forward to that task.
