Thanksgiving in New York City

It has been a very long time since I've posted. I'm in New York City, well technically New Jersey right now. I'm visiting friends for the Thanksgiving holiday and we came down early to tour around the city for a few days.

I found a few yarn shops and made it to two of them in the city. They were both in Greenwich Village.

The first was Purl Soho. It had a great selection of all natural yarns from merino wool to cashmere. The shop was very small and there was barely any room to move. They had a table in the middle and there were a few ladies sitting around it knitting. Plus, when you buy your yarn there they offer to ball it for you right then. I thought this was a very nice gesture. I bought 2 balls of Koigu sock yarn in a purple/pink/brown color way! It's gorgeous!

The second shop was called The Point NYC and was a cafe as well as a yarn shop. I was not very impressed with their selection but I loved the cafe idea. Most of the patrons of the cafe were enjoying some coffee and knitting away.

When I get home I'll be posting some pictures from my trip. I love visiting NYC, the people are amazingly friendly. Now I'm off to celebrate Thanksgiving with the rest of the locals by watching the Macy's day parade. Happy Thanksgiving to all the Americans!

Soft and Green

For my birthday back in October, my good friend Line gave me a beautiful hank of Sea Silk from Handmaiden in a gorgeaous green color way.



I searched for the right pattern to do this yarn justice and I think I found one. There is enough yarn to make a scarf (~400m) and I wanted a modern looking scarf because I find this yarn is a modern idea itself. I also wanted a pattern that would allow the yarn to show itself off, from it's softness and it's glossiness.

A modified version of Clapotis is the winner!





Some blocking will be required but so far I'm loving this pattern. I am making it narrower than the original Clapotis because of the amount of yarn I have and the guage of the yarn as well. I weighed the current amount knitted and the ball and I think I have enough yarn to make the scarf 45" long... we'll see how close I get to that.

Surprise Package

Back on August 18 was Tammy's blogaversary and she had a draw from the comments on that day for a sock kit. I won the draw! I was very excited because I never win anything and it was a sock kit!

Time went by and I kind of forgot about this and then one day there was a parcel in the mail and it contained this!

Now I have to figure out how to dye. I've been wanting to give this a try so this is perfect.
